Welcome to Bongo Girls Secondary School Website
Bongo secondary school is a girl school that was started in 1974 as a mixed (Boys and Girls) Harambee day school through Bongo primary school parent initiatives. Land was hived from the then existing primary school. Numerous fund raising were organized by the poor parents and a structure was build and come 1975, the first 49 students were enrolled.
Through the same harambee initiative, two separate dormitories were built to house boys and enrollment of 200 students. The school changed status in year 2003 to a girl’s school with an enrollment of 220 girls. This was necessisted by the overwhelming demand for a girl’s school in the area. The current enrollment is standing at 458 girls. The school has growth potential were it equipped. It is the only girls district boarding Government assisted school in Kinangop District.

Message from the Principal
I take this opportunity to welcome you to Bongo secondary school website.
Bongo secondary school is government assisted meaning that the government provides teachers.Since joining Bongo secondary school in 2004,i have worked with PTA and BOG and we have initiated several developments including building of a block of one storey classrooms, a block of toilets, construction of two domitories and currently there is another domitory under construction. All these developments are done by money raised through harambees by parents.
On the other hand when i came to this school the student population was just 220 girls but currently we have 458 girls.
However, due to the shortage of teachers, the parents have employed 4 teachers and the government 18,giving a total of 22 teachers.A bore hole was sunk last year by the ministry of water and irrigation through appeal by our Honourable member of parliament David Ngugi. The MP has also given his personal donations and also facilitated CDF funds for the construction of the water towers and also donations to install several water storage tanks.
It is worth noting that the burden of development is left to parents. This has proved extremely challenging because the parents are poor small scale farmers mainly doing subsistence farming. There is no cash crop in this area. The parents are currently agonizing on how to build three extra class rooms and a domitory to cater for a third stream. A domitory is under construction after parents did a fundraising but this has stalled because the fund got depleted.
I appeal to both Kenyans and non Kenyans of good will, government, non governmental organizations, business comunity and charitable organizations to assist us financially to complete the following projects which are of great importance to our school:
1) School library- The school has no library at all. This has posed a big challenge to learning. The school is ready to provide a room to have one.We are appealing to people of good will, foundations and organizations both local and international to donate books, equipments and other reading materials either in kind or otherwise. This will greately enhance our perfomance hence giving a girl child a chance in life.
2) Help us to build and equip a second laboratory to cope with the increase in the number of students.
3) Computer lab: The school needs a computer laboratory to keep abreast with information technology.
4) To cater for a third stream, the school needs additional classrooms and an extra dormitory.
5) School bus .So far the parents have not managed to provide an urgently needed school bus. This poses a great challenge particularly when the girls fell sick at night for we usually carry them on our backs for treatment to the health facility. The school bus is handy for taking students to educational tours,co-curriculum activities and ferring provisions to school.
We shall highly appreciate your donatiosnas we partner to make a difference in life of a girl child. We promise that all donations both in cash and kind shall go to the intended purpose. Our prayer, faith and trust is that together we shall join hands and steer this school to greater heights of success,in dicipline, morals and academically to be seen and appreciated by generations to come.God bless you.
